Park Food and Amenities
We know that an important part of every vacation is good food. That’s why our chefs at Chikalango Restaurant & Bar are proud to serve you delicious authentic Mozambican and international cuisine using fresh, local ingredients.
We’re proud to feature locally grown, organic vegetables in our restaurant that we purchase to support communities around the Park. Our menu has a range of a la carte options including fresh salads, hot appetizers, mouth-watering main courses, and even something to satisfy your sweet tooth. Check out the restaurant menu for a full list of offerings. Substantial upgrades to our bar and kitchen facilities coming in 2020
Hot breakfast made to order is included in the price of all accommodations (except camping), or you can sample from our breakfast buffet if you have to dash off for a morning game drive. Breakfast options include your choice of eggs, meats, freshly baked breads, cereal, fresh seasonal fruit, and juice. Try a delicious coffee, tea, espresso, or cappuccino to keep you alert on those early morning safaris.
Lunch is a time for relaxation in Gorongosa. The animals are all napping and it’s a great time to grab a bite to eat followed by a lounge by the pool. Choose from a variety of entrees, sandwiches, chips, fresh salads, or soups.
Some typical dinner offerings include fresh Mozambican tiger prawns – if you haven’t tasted these yet, you’re in for a treat! If you’re not a seafood lover, you can try our local chicken, or choose a fine cut of steak accompanied by a selection of local beer, imported wine, or spirits. Vegetarians have plenty of options including vegetarian stews, and matapa – a Mozambican specialty. During our busiest periods we offer a dinner buffet giving you a chance to try it all!
As the African sun rises overhead and the temperature warms, afternoons in camp are best spent taking a refreshing dip in the pool. Our two swimming pools are a great place for the kids to have fun while their parents relax on the comfortable lounge chairs. This is what vacation is all about.
On your memorable vacation to Gorongosa, you won’t want to forget to visit our gift shop. Get a keepsake for yourself or gifts for your loved ones. Our gift shop sells Gorongosa shirts, hats, postcards, books, and locally made crafts.
After a long day on safari in Gorongosa, you may be tired but your kids may not be! The playground in Chitengo offers young children hours of fun playing on the slide, swings, and their own African animals.

We’re here to help!
Hi, I’m Vasco,

Advance an integrated multi-partner approach to conservation and to people-centred development. The Gorongosa Project protects the Park’s biodiversity and ecosystem services and unlocks its economic potential for the community inhabitants of the Gorongosa Buffer Zone, Sofala Province, Mozambique and further afield.
A thriving, biodiversity-rich, Greater Gorongosa conservation landscape, which supports Sofala Province as an engine for resilient and sustainable development enabling nature experiences and wellbeing for its people, enriching all of Mozambique and the world.
A Park for Peace
On 1 August, 2019 a historic ceremony was held in Gorongosa to celebrate the Cessation of Hostilities Accord between the leaders of the Government of Mozambique and the opposition Renamo Party. The accord established Gorongosa National Park (GNP) as a ‘Park for Peace’, delivering human development to the communities that share the greater landscape.
